RFNSW’s Regional Area provides services to individuals in Tamworth, Ulladulla and Wagga Wagga through the Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI). The main focus of the HASI program is to bring people home from psychiatric institutions, homelessness or out of area placements. A key component is voluntary participation in the program. As with any rural program there are issues of isolation and service access difficulties. Known as Australia's country music capital, the growing regional city of Tamworth was built on the wealth of agriculture. Today the region has a thriving industrial area, a regional training hospital, a Conservatorium of Music, and a busy airport. Originally part of the HASI Rural Program, RFNSW's office in Tamworth was established in 2003 and provides high support HASI 1 service. The Wagga Office opened in May 2004 and is positioned in the main street of Wagga. Wagga is the largest inland city in New South Wales and situated on the picturesque banks of the Murrumbidgee River. The Wagga Office provides high support to ten individuals with a mental illness living in the local area. The Office has significant ties with the Community Mental Health Service and the Department of Housing through the Housing Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI Program). The town of Ulladulla is located in the Southern Shoalhaven Region on the NSW South Coast, about three hours driving time from Sydney. Ulladulla is one of the state’s major tourist areas with a harbour that’s home to the largest commercial fishing fleet on the South Coast. The Richmond Fellowship of NSW opened its Ulladulla Office in late October 2007. RFNSW’s Ulladulla office was initially allocated 8 high support (HASI 4A) packages, but by January 2008 as a result of successfully tendering for new regional mental health community support places in HASI 4B (HASI in the Home) the total soon increased to 16.
