Hunter

The Hunter Service was established in 1999 when the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC) funded RFNSW to provide support to people displaced through closures of boarding houses in the Hunter area.

Since then the service has expanded via funding from the Area Health Service and the Housing and Supported Accommodation Initiative (HASI), as well as by the amalgamation of the Hunter and New England Area Health Services – changing the area from the Hunter to the Hunter / New England area.

Services are provided to 70 people in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas, with funding from DADHC and the Hunter & New England Area Health Service.

The Hunter / New England service provides three distinct levels of support in a range of housing models:

  • High Support - 24 hours per day
  • Medium Support - Daily support up to 16 hours per day
  • Low Support - Drop in support on a needs basis
